BYD gives the Dolphin a nip and tuck for its first refresh

If there's one BYD vehicle that needs an update soon, it's the Dolphin. Serving as the automaker's swanky and stylish hatchback, the all-electric Dolphin has been in the market since 2021 and while it still looks fresh, it does need a bit of nip and tuck.

Fortunately, BYD has been busy lately giving the electric hatchback a facelift. In fact, even before BYD officially launched it, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People's Republic revealed the first images and details of the refreshed Dolphin.

It's expected to make its official debut sometime next year but based on the initial photos, the updated BYD Dolphin will get a revamped face. It gets a sleeker LED headlights, a slimmer grille, and redesigned front bumper intakes. Also worth mentioning are the redesigned LED taillights which appear to have a more stylish lighting signature. Meanwhile, the rear bumper gets a cleaner look which gives the Dolphin a more discerning appearance.

In terms of size, MIIT documents state that the 2025 Dolphin will measure 4280mm long, 1770mm wide, 1570mm tall, and will have a 2700mm wheelbase. This makes the updated hatchback longer by 155mm and 10mm shorter in terms of height compared to the current Dolphin. Interior images have yet to be revealed although we can expect BYD to also introduce changes inside the 2025 Dolphin.

When it comes to its powertrain, the 2025 Dolphin will be available in three (electric) states of tune; 95 PS, 177 PS, and 204 PS. The hatchback will also be fitted with new BYD Blade LFP battery packs although no exact details have been revealed yet. Currently, the Dolphin is available with either a 44.93 kWh or 60.48 kWh battery pack which gives the hatchback a range of up to 420 km and 520 km, respectively.

With the 2025 BYD Dolphin looking ready for its public debut, we won't be surprised if it's also set to make its way here in the Philippines around next year.
