Can you spot changes to the 2019 Suzuki Alto 800?

The 2019 Suzuki Alto has a familiar face, but a new heart under the hood

The current-generation Suzuki Alto 800 has been around for a while already. In fact, the car is now about to hit six years old now, which is a pretty long lifespan for a Japanese car. So for 2019, there's a new one out, and by new, we mean a facelift.

So, what's new with it? The most obvious change is at the front end. There's a new front grill, along with a new front bumper design which give the hatchback a somewhat fresher look. Also, there are new-style wheel covers and they put in a new set of door guards as well. Other than that, it's pretty much the same as before, especially the rear end.

Far less noticeable are the changes to the interior. The only difference you'll spot inside is the two-tone scheme. Using the version we tested for reference, the current Alto 800 had a plain gray interior. They did add in a new radio, which now has Bluetooth capabilities. Another addition is a speed warning chime but as to what speed it will kick in, Suzuki has not mentioned it. As far as the cabin goes, it's still as basic as it comes.

There is a big change, however, and it's found under the hood. According to Suzuki, the new 796cc motor is Euro 6 compliant, and has a new control unit as well. As a result, the claimed fuel economy figure is rated at 22 kilometers per liter. Power on the other hand is up by just 1 PS at 48 PS, and torque is also up by 1 Nm at 69 Nm. The lone transmission is a five-speed manual.

At the moment, the updated Suzuki Alto 800 will be for the Indian market. But given that the Alto 800 is also being offered here, it could only be a matter of time before we get it. As to when, that is yet to be determined.
