BYD Sealion 7 gets a new sibling with the Song Ultra
We already know that BYD could be planning to launch the Sealion 7 in the Philippines. Unlike the Sealion 6, which is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), the Sealion 7 is a midsize electric vehicle (EV) that sits in the midsize crossover segment.
Based on the Department of Energy's (DOE) list of recognized EVs, the BYD Sealion 7 is listed to come in the AWD Performance variant. This means it has a dual-motor setup that generates 390 kW or about 530 PS with 690 Nm of torque. It's also mentioned to have an 82.56 kWh battery pack, which translates to a range of up to 456 km, based on the WLTP cycle.
In the future, the Sealion 7 will be joined by another midsize electric crossover that offers more range. This is the BYD Song Ultra EV, and it's capable of traveling more than 600 km and beyond. Revealed ahead of its official launch by BYD and the Chinese Ministry of Industry & Information Technology (MIIT), the BYD Song Ultra is slightly bigger than the Sealion 7 but only has a single electric motor.

Starting with its size, the Song Ultra measures 4850mm long, 1910mm wide, 1670mm tall, and has a 2840mm wheelbase. Side-by-side with the Sealion 7, the Song Ultra is 20mm longer and is taller by 50mm. However, the Sealion 7 is 15mm wider and has a 90mm longer wheelbase. Despite the slight difference in size, both the Song Ultra and Sealion 7 are five-seater crossover SUVs.
In terms of design, the Song Ultra follows the brand's “Dynasty” design language, which is different from the Sealion's “Ocean” design. This gives the Song Ultra a Tang-like inspired look, which consists of tapered LED headlights, a Tang-like grille, LED wraparound taillights, and a curvaceous side profile.

When it comes to its electric powertrain, the Song Ultra is built on the brand's 3.0 Evo platform and has a single rear electric motor that's available in two states of tune: 270 kW or 367 PS and 240 kW or 326 PS. The Song Ultra is also available with two battery options: 75.61 kWh, which gives it a range of up to 620 km, and 82.73 kWh, which translates to a range of up to 710 km, both on the CLTC cycle.
There's no word yet if the BYD Song Ultra will be offered here. But with BYD's market presence continuing to grow in the Philippines, perhaps it might eventually arrive here. For now, all we can do is hope and wait if the automaker decides to bring it here.
