Brabus builds a hot hatch out of Mercedes-Benz A250

Think Brabus, and immediately we imagine highly-tuned German bruisers that produce upwards of 1000 PS or thereabouts. From the stately C-Class, all the way to the luxurious S-Class and G-Class, it seems nothing is out of reach for the Bottrop-based tuning house.

Now, Brabus has gotten their hands on the all-new A-Class and has given it some substantial upgrades inside and outside. But with Mercedes-AMG already having built a hot hatch with the A35, Brabus decided to take the top-of-the-line A250 from the standard A-Class range, and make it look and perform like its AMG sibling.

Starting off with the exterior, the hatchback now sports a new front spoiler, along with cannards that help reduce front axle lift. In true Brabus fashion, the Mercedes-Benz logo has been replaced with their own personal badge while still keeping the original Mercedes-style grill. Apart from those, the rear fascia also gets some subtle upgrades like a new diffuser and quad exhaust tips that can be finished in either carbon or stainless steel. A wide range of wheels and tires are also available and can come in 17-, 18-, 19-, and 20-inches.

Pop the doors open, and you are greeted by a mix of leather and Alcantara trim. Instead of borrowing from Mercedes-Benz or Mercedes-AMG, Brabus makes and installs their own upholstery in-house. Apart from that, aluminum pedals, new floor mats, as well as stainless steel door sill plates spruce up the cabin of the A250.

But perhaps the most important upgrade on this particular A-Class is what's under the hood. Thanks to the PowerXtra B25 S performance upgrade, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder now produces an impressive 270 PS (+46) along with a meaty 430 Nm (+80) of torque. With it, the hatchback can now sprint from 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and reach an electronically-governed top speed of 250 km/h. The performance upgrade is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive models.

For those that prefer a diesel upgrade for their A-Class, do not fret as Brabus is already working on that and could be released some time next year.

While it's not as powerful as the Mercedes-AMG A35 (which puts out 306 PS), the Brabus A250 does have a lot more torque. It beats out the A35's 400 Nm thanks to an extra 30 Nm of pulling power. If ever these two go toe-to-toe on the track or on the drag strip, it would be a sight to see indeed.
