BMW takes full control of Alpina, relaunched as standalone brand

Alpina becomes BMW Alpina

As early as 2022, BMW and Alpina reached a deal that would see the tuning company become part of the BMW Group. That’s right, the German tuner that originally started tuning and racing BMWs since 1965, and later on, sold modified BMWs, is now officially part of BMW.

Fast forward to 2026, BMW has announced that the transfer of the Alpina trademark right was completed on January 1, 2026. This marks the launch of BMW Alpina as a standalone brand under the company’s umbrella group.

BMW Alpina will initially focus on brand activation and will include key elements such as a unique balance of maximum performance and superior ride comfort, combined with hallmark driving characteristics. It will then be complemented by an exclusive portfolio of bespoke options and custom materials.

Despite being part of the BMW Group, BMW Alpina will continue its tradition of manufacturing vehicles according to rigorous standards for materials selection and craftsmanship. Combined with countless bespoke options for its customers, each BMW Alpina will have its own unmistakable character, which ensures the vehicle’s individuality.

For now, Alpina continues to make modified versions of the current 3 Series (AKA the B3 GT & B3 GT Touring). In the future, however, BMW Alpina’s first vehicle will reportedly be based on the refreshed 7 Series, which will be called the B7. It will supposedly have its own internal codename called G72, which could hint that it will be very different from a standard 7 Series. Moreover, the BMW Alpina B7 will reportedly be first made by the German automaker before being transferred to Alpina’s Buchloe facility. In the future, BMW Alpina may also get its hands on modifying the X7.
