Concept G4 world premiere follows on Global Small Car project

Mitsubishi held the global unveiling of the Concept G4 global compact sedan to preview the upcoming 4-door version of the Mirage at the 2013 Bangkok Motor Show. This confirms our earlier assumption based on the teaser released by the Japanese carmaker earlier this month. Mitsubishi Global Small Car project head Takashi Sato was personally present at the unveiling.

As earlier described, the G4 will have a short nose for the better forward field of view and maneuverability; a 1.2-liter MIVEC coupled with a CVT with sub-geartrain; and a RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) lightweight body reinforced with high-tensile steel that improves efficiency and while ensuring occupant safety.

The new subcompact sedan will fit in perfectly with Thailand’s eco-car program which provides tax incentives for cars that meet the criteria for fuel-efficiency. We do hope the Philippines comes up with a similar program to encourage buying of fuel-efficient vehicles.

While Mitsubishi has not formally announced the release date, we did share a reliable tip that the subcompact sedan will make its production debut later this year.

Mitsubishi Thailand also revealed a Mirage 'Bloom Edition' to commemorate the model's first anniversary in the market. The special version comes with premium-grade fabric seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 'Bloom Edition' badge on the tailgate. It will come in a special 'Blossom Purple' paint finish and White Pearl.
