X3 xDrive30e set to join upcoming plug-in hybrid offerings of BMW

Last week, we reported that BMW Philippines distributor SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp will supposedly bring not one, but two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. Based on what we've gathered, the automaker will apparently soon launch the X5 xDrive 50e and the 7 Series 750e xDrive. Heck, there's also the possibility of the all-new M5 making its way here to the country soon.

Both PHEVs will have an electrified 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six that makes 490 PS with 700 Nm of pull and will have an electric range between 55 to 64 km. Aside from those, however, BMW will reportedly bring another plug-in hybrid model.

Recently, the automaker received regulatory approval for yet another passenger vehicle. This one has a gasoline-powered 1998cc engine which translates to a 2.0L. Based on the engine size, it looks like it's the B48 four-cylinder engine which powers several BMW vehicles. However, based on an anonymous source, there will be another plug-in hybrid from BMW, and it will apparently come in the form of the X3 xDrive30e.

Based on what other markets get, the X3 xDrive30e comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine that's assisted by an electric and a 12kWh battery. It has a combined system output of 248 PS (282 PS when Eletric Boost is engaged) along with 420 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to an 8-speed automatic transmission. On a full charge, BMW claims the X3 xDrive30e can travel up to 48 km.

With BMW reportedly set to join the plug-in hybrid segment, having a trio of PHEVs could perhaps help the automaker get a larger share of the electrified market. Since BMW Philippines already offers pure ICE and EV models, having PHEVs in their lineup will help customers choose more on what they prefer.
