Autosweep RFID deadline for SMC tollways extended to Nov 30

San Miguel extends RFID installation deadline to November 30, 2020

San Miguel Corporation, the operator of Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway, and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), is ready to implement full cashless toll collection as mandated by the government.

But with the surge in the number of motorists rushing to acquire Autosweep RFIDs, there are now long queues at installation sites for the past two weeks. Despite the deadline drawing nearer, there are many still that have yet to acquire an Autosweep RFID tag.

Due to this predicament, SMC has announced that it will be extending the issuance of its free RFID stickers to November 30, 2020.

“By November 2, all lanes at our toll plazas will be fully capable and converted to electronic toll collection, in full compliance with the government’s mandate. However, after careful study and deliberation, and especially in consideration of so many motorists who have not been able to secure an Autosweep RFID account because of the volume of applications we have today, we have decided to extend the deadline to November 30,” said SMC in a statement.

With it, vehicles without RFID will still be allowed to enter the expressways from November 2 until November 30, 2020. SMC is hopeful that this will give motorists more time to get their RFID stickers. SMC emphasized, however, that November 30 is the absolute final date. After this, vehicles with no RFID stickers will not be allowed passage to enter any of SMC's tollways. Those who will not follow the government mandate will be apprehended and issued a citation ticket.

To provide more convenience to motorists, SMC has set up installation and reloading lanes at toll plaza entry points, in addition to the installation and reloading stations already set up in strategic locations in Metro Manila and Luzon provinces.
