Chery holds global debut of all-new Tiggo 9 PHEV in Beijing

The Philippine market may have the Tiggo 8 Pro as Chery’s three-row flagship offering in the crossover SUV market. But in the People’s Republic, they have the Tiggo 9. First revealed at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, it now serves as the flagship model in the PRC and comes with plenty of features, amenities, and a powerful 2.0-liter turbo.

Fast forward to Auto China 2024 in Beijing, the automaker has expanded the model lineup with the Tiggo 9 PHEV. Now serving as the most powerful and high-tech version of the flagship crossover SUV, it benefits from an assisted 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a sleeker-looking exterior, and a swankier cabin.

Powering the Tiggo 9 Pro PHEV is a powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 238 PS along with a generous 375 Nm of torque. It is then assisted by a powerful PHEV system that consists of a 3-speed electric motor and a battery pack. The electric motor produces an additional 224 PS which provides faster acceleration while under load and saves on fuel.

Power is then transferred to an 8-speed automatic transmission while its average fuel consumption is rated at 5.2 liters per 100 km which translates to 19.2 km/L. This makes it impressive despite the vehicle’s size and dimensions. Even more impressive is Chery’s claim that on a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery, the Tiggo 9 can cover 1,400 km.

Moving to its exterior styling, the Tiggo 9 PHEV features a unique design philosophy called “Conquer”. It combines aggressive lines with an avant-garde look which gives the Tiggo 9 PHEV a truly distinct design. It gets an eye-catching octagon grille, aggressive LED headlights & daytime running lights, massive 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, wraparound LED taillights, gloss black accents, and a panoramic sunroof.

Hop inside and the Tiggo 9 PHEV greets occupants into a warm and luxurious cabin that contrasts the sleek exterior. Whereas the outside features the “Conquer” design philosophy, the interior gets the “Guard” treatment - resulting in a comfortable and tech-laden cabin. The dashboard is crowned with a huge 15.6-inch 2.5K high-definition media infotainment system that’s complemented by a high-end center console that’s brimming with amenities.

The seats and steering wheel, meanwhile, are upholstered in high-quality leather finished in beige - adding to the Tiggo 9 PHEV’s warm cabin ambiance. All three rows of seats can be adjusted electronically which means occupants need not exert much effort in finding their preferred seating position.

Other key features available inside the Tiggo 9 PHEV include a power tailgate, 3D-stitched seats, charging ports across all rows of seats, wireless connectivity features, and a suite of intelligent driver aids that provide extra peace of mind.

The Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV will be launched in Q4 2024 in the PRC and will be available with a regular turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Perhaps the only question now is, should Chery Auto Philippines bring the Tiggo 9 (and Tiggo 9 PHEV) to the country in the not-so-distant future?
