Upcoming Ford Ranger Super Duty can tow up to 4,500 kg

We've already seen Ford build various versions of the Ranger for the past several years. From limited edition models like Stormtrak to the diesel V6-powered Platinum, Blue Oval is keen to build a wide array of Ranger models to cater to every type of customer.

Now, the automaker is set to reveal what could be the most capable Ranger when it comes to hauling cargo. Ford recently announced that the Ranger Super Duty is coming in 2026 and is set to deliver “next-level, work-ready capability to serve the toughest customers” when it arrives next year.

Made possible by collaboration with fleet customers, Ford claims that Ranger Super Duty can do more and carry more than a typical midsize pickup truck. Engineered and designed to deliver higher levels of Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), Gross Combined Mass (GCM), towing, and enhanced off-road capability, the Ranger Super Duty can serve various tasks and operations, depending on the need.

“Ranger Super Duty blends the smart features and advanced safety of our award-winning Ranger with heavy-duty capability and delivers what our buyers told us they needed but couldn’t get anywhere else. This work-ready vehicle will give owners the flexibility they need to get the big jobs done, with the confidence of a factory-backed warranty,” said Sondra Sutton Phung, General Manager, Global Truck, Ford Motor Company.

Once revealed, emergency service operators, utility and construction companies, miners, infrastructure technicians, farmers, and more can use the Ranger Super Duty.

In fact, Ford says the Ranger Super Duty has a maximum braked towing capacity of 4,500 kg which is 1,000 kg more than what a typical Ranger can pull and 2,000 kg more than what a Ranger Raptor can tow. It also has a gross vehicle mass of 4,500 kg which means it can do more heavy lifting without breaking a sweat.

The exact details and specifications of the Ranger Super Duty remain to be seen. However, the soon-to-be-revealed pickup truck could come with a reinforced chassis and a more powerful turbo-diesel engine, possibly an uprated 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 derived from the Ranger Platinum. The six-cylinder diesel engine already makes an impressive 250 PS and 600 Nm of torque but we won't be surprised if Ford will extract more power from the 3.0L diesel V6 for the Ranger Super Duty.

As we move closer to launch, we will continue to work closely with fleets and vehicle modifiers across Australia to be sure that Ranger Super Duty does everything they expect it to, and so much more,” said Andrew Birkic, president & CEO of Ford Australia and Ford New Zealand.
