BYD Cars PH debuts Tang DM-i with up to 1,160 km of combined range
BYD’s biggest and boldest 7-seater crossover SUV has just made its Philippine debut. After a lengthy teaser campaign and opening the reservation books, ACMobility has launched the 2026 BYD Tang DM-i.
Serving as BYD’s electrified answer to traditional frame-based 7-seater SUVs, the Tang DM-i is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the brand’s flagship crossover SUV. That’s right, there is now an alternative option other than just the fully-electric Tang EV.
Powering the Tang PHEV is the brand’s DM-i system, which consists of a 1.5L turbocharged engine that serves as a generator and an electric motor that’s powered by a BYD Blade battery. The engine makes 150 PS with 250 Nm of torque and charges a 21.5 kWh battery pack, which gives the Tang PHEV a range of up to 110 km on a full charge based on the NEDC cycle.
Powering the front wheels of the Tang is a single electric motor that produces 272 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Despite having a 2,130 kg curb weight, the Tang PHEV can go from 0 - 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 200 km/h. It also has a combined system range of 1,160 km based on the NEDC cycle.
The BYD Tang DM-i supports both Type 2 AC charging and CCS2 DC fast charging. Those who plan to buy one will also be happy to know it will come with a 7kW wall-mounted home charger and a portable charging cable for recharging while on the go. And like almost every BYD PHEV, the Tang DM-i comes with regenerative braking and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.
Size-wise, the Tang PHEV is 4870mm long, 1950mm wide, 1725mm tall, and has a 2820mm wheelbase. It also has 225mm of ground clearance, which makes it more than capable of going over rough terrain should the need arise. This is made possible thanks to its tall ride height and massive 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/55 series tires.
The plug-in hybrid Tang also gets a slightly different look compared to the EV version. Instead of a closed-off front fascia, the DM-i version gets a stylish front grille and a different front bumper. The rear also gets its own styling thanks to a pair of eye-catching LED taillights complete with a full-width light bar.
Hop inside, and the Tang PHEV welcomes occupants into a spacious and fully equipped cabin. In front of the driver is a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, while the center dashboard comes with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and comes with a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system.
It also gets a 50W wireless charging pad, front & rear charging ports, ambient lighting, a 360-degree around-view monitor, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear vents and a PM2.5 filter, a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, 60:40 split-rear seats, 50:50 split third row seats, rear privacy glass, and soundproof front windows for extra comfort.
For extra peace of mind, the BYD Tang DM-i is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems. This gives the Tang intelligent driver aids, such as forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, lane-tracing assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, rear-cross traffic alert, and front & rear parking sensors.
