Mitsubishi refreshes the Xpander, Xpander Cross for 2025 model year

Last week, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) officially confirmed that the Xpander and Pajero Sport (AKA Montero Sport) will be getting new-generation models. With that, two of Mitsubishi's popular seven-seater vehicles will continue to be available to customers in the coming years.

But before we get to see the all-new Xpander make its debut, Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia has just revealed the refreshed MPV. That's right, the Japanese automaker just launched the facelifted Xpander (and Xpander Cross) for the 2025 model year in Southeast Asia, and boy, was Mitsubishi busy.

While some might say the MPV still looks relatively the same, the 2025 Xpander gets a new black grille with a silver trim. It also gets a redesigned front bumper with restyled LED foglights on higher-grade variants. The Xpander Cross, meanwhile, gets a more stylish gloss black grille with X-shaped inserts and a more rugged-looking front bumper.

Other changes Mitsubishi applied to the Xpander and Xpander Cross include new 17-inch alloy wheels (unique to each model), redesigned rear bumpers, smoked LED headlights, more aerodynamic side skirts, and body-colored door handles that replace the previous chrome finish.

Hop inside, and Mitsubishi gave the MPV plenty of new technologies. For starters, it now gets a new 8-inch digital instrument cluster that's shared with XForce. There's also a bigger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with crisp graphics and updated menus. Also new inside the Xpander and Xpander Cross is a middle headrest for the second-row seats and an updated center armrest with integrated cupholders.

Mitsubishi also gave the Xpander and Xpander Cross improved safety by giving them a total of 6 airbags, up from the previous two in the current model. Moreover, the Active Yaw Control is now also available in the regular Xpander, which used to be exclusive only to the Xpander Cross. Last but not least, high-grade versions of the MPV are now available with a 360-degree camera for improved visibility.

Under the hood, the 2025 Xpander and Xpander Cross continue to be powered by a 1.5L 4A91 four-cylinder MIVEC engine that puts out 105 PS and 141 Nm of torque. In Indonesia, the engine is paired with either a CVT or a 5-speed manual gearbox. We're hoping Mitsubishi makes the CVT available in the Philippine market once the updated Xpander makes its way here.

With the refreshed Xpander and Xpander Cross now available in Indonesia, we're curious as to when Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) plans on launching the revamped MPV. After all, it is one of the brand's best-selling models in the country. We're also curious if MMPC will replace the 4-speed automatic with the new CVT.
