The BYD Shark 6 makes its ASEAN debut in Cambodia

It might not be long before BYD's electrified midsize pickup truck makes its way to the Philippines. After making its world debut in Mexico earlier this year, the BYD Shark has officially arrived in Southeast Asia.

The first country in the region to get the all-new electrified pickup truck is Cambodia where BYD held its launch. Dubbed the BYD Shark 6 in Cambodia, the pickup truck gets the same exterior design as the one revealed in Mexico last May. From the F-150-inspired front end to the large LED taillights, as well as the sports bar on the bed, the BYD Shark 6 looks as cool as can be.

Size-wise, the Shark 6 PHEV measures 5457mm long, 1971mm wide, 1925mm tall, and has a 3260mm wheelbase. Since it has a fully independent rear suspension, the pickup truck has a payload capacity of 835 kg. Meanwhile, its bed volume is rated at 1,450 liters. Last but not least, the Shark 6 has a towing capacity of 2,500 kg.

Powering the BYD Shark 6 is a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder that's assisted by a pair of electric motors. The engine alone makes 231 PS while the front motor produces 231 PS and 310 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the rear electric motor provides 204 PS with 340 Nm of torque. Combined, the Shark 6 has a total system output of 435 PS and 650 Nm of torque.

The Shark 6 also comes with a 29.58 kWh lithium iron-phosphate Blade Battery which gives the Shark 6 an EV range of up to 100 km based on the NEDC cycle. On a full tank of gas and a fully charged battery, however, the Shark 6 has an estimated cruising range of up to 840 km.

With the BYD Shark 6 already available in Cambodia, we won't be surprised if other ASEAN markets may soon get the electrified pickup truck, including the Philippines.
