Lexus reveals the NX Overtrail edition with plenty of exterior, interior, and chassis upgrades
Whenever we think of Lexus vehicles going off-road, we immediately think of the GX and the LX. With their frame-based chassis, 4WD capability, differential locks, and high ground clearance, it's not surprising to see luxury SUVs from Lexus take the road less traveled every once in a while.
There is the Lexus NX but it's a crossover meant for paved roads and not going off-road. However, the automaker has decided to give the mall crawler some key upgrades that will give it some ability to hit some light trails. Say hello to the 2024 Lexus NX Overtrail and it has some nice features a regular NX can only wish to have.

Beginning with the most obvious first, the NX Overtrail rolls on a new set of 18-inch matte black alloy wheels that are wrapped in 235/60 all-terrain tires. It also comes with 15mm of extra ground clearance which improves the NX Overtrail's ability to go over rough terrain. To make the NX Overtrail stand out from a regular NX, it's available in a unique hue called Desert Moon and is complemented by touches of black on the side mirror caps, door handles, window garnishes, and roof rails.
Besides giving it a chassis upgrade, the NX Overtrail's adaptive variable suspension system has been updated with an Overtrail-specific setting to improve its ability to absorb bumps on uneven surfaces.

Step inside and the special edition crossover gets a unique Monolith/black interior finish which blends nicely with the Desert Moon exterior. There are also nice wood accents present on the door panels which provide a striking contrast against the predominantly dark cabin.
On the technology front, Lexus installed some new features which will also be available in the regular 2024 model year updates of the NX. These include; 2 USB-C charging ports in the center console, a bigger 14-inch media display that replaces the previous 9.8-inch display, full LED headlights with adaptive function, illuminated rear door handles, and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the hood, the NX Overtrail will be available with various powertrains that include the NX350 (a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine), NX350h (2.5-liter HEV), and the NX450h+ (2.5-liter plug-in hybrid).
The NX350 produces 279 PS with 430 Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Next is the NX350h which has a a combined system output of 243 PS along with 243 Nm of pull and is paired with an eCVT. Last but not least is the NX450h+ which puts out 309 PS with 228 Nm of pull and is mated to an eCVT that drives all four wheels.
For now, the Lexus NX Overtrail is only being offered in Japan. In the future, however, we won't be surprised if the automaker will eventually offer it in other markets as well. Hopefully, Lexus Philippines will be able to get their hands on several examples for a select few.
