BYD Philippines brings the stylish and affordable Seagull EV
BYD Philippines distributor ACMobility wants to make EVs affordable for Filipinos. But instead of just offering something cheap and quirky, BYD has decided to combine stylish looks with a relatively spacious cabin that's also packed to the brim with features.
After giving the public a glimpse of its newest EV, BYD Philippines has officially unveiled the Seagull, the brand's most affordable all-electric vehicle yet. It slots below the Dolphin, offers an all-electric driving experience without breaking the bank, and can seat a total of five individuals.
At the heart of the BYD Seagull is a humble but potent powertrain that consists of a 30kWh Blade Battery and a single electric motor that drives the front wheels. It makes 75 PS along with 135 Nm of torque. It has three drive modes available that include Eco, Normal, and Sport. On a full charge, BYD claims the Seagull can travel up to 300 km based on the NEDC cycle.
The Seagull supports CCS2 (AKA Type 2) charging which makes it compatible with most public chargers. With the onboard 7 kW charging cable, the Seagull can be recharged from 0% to 100% in 5 hours. On the other hand, a DC fast charger can juice up the Seagull from 30% to 80% in only 30 minutes. It also has a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system which will allow users to power up appliances or a worksite during a blackout.
Size-wise, the BYD Seagull measures 3780mm long, 1715mm wide, 1580mm tall, and has a 2500mm wheelbase. It has a turning radius of 4.95m and a curb weight of 1160 kg. Since it's a five-door hatchback, the Seagull can seat a total of five individuals with ease. This makes BYD's newest EV roomier than the likes of the Jetour Ice Cream EV and DFSK Candy and makes it a direct competitor against the Dongfeng NanoBox.
It may be small in size but the Seagull has bags of character in terms of looks. The front fascia is dominated by a pair of aggressive LED headlights & daytime running lights and a distinct front bumper. Stylish 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 175/55 tires fill up the wheel wells while the rear of the Seagull gets eye-catching LED taillights complete with a full-width LED light bar.
Hop inside and the BYD Segaull welcomes you into a high-tech and practical interior. Immediately grabbing your attention is the 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment that supports wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Also present are two-tone leather seats, automatic climate control, a 4-speaker sound system, and smart entry with keyless start.
Other key features available inside the Seagull include a wireless charging pad, two USB charging ports (Type A & Type C), a leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt adjust, LED map lights, and push-button start. With the rear seats up, the BYD Seagull has 230 liters worth of luggage space which can be extended to 930 liters with the rear seats folded down.
When it comes to safety, the BYD Seagull comes with the following; anti-lock brakes, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, vehicle dynamic control system, regenerative braking, hill-start assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a host of airbags (dual front and side curtains).
The 2024 BYD Seagull GLX can be yours for PHP 898,000 for a limited time. Moreover, the Seagull is covered by an extensive 6-year/160,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty and 8-year/160,000 km warranty coverage for both the battery and electric motor.
Those who want to test drive the Seagull can visit Ayala Malls Manila Bay and try out the BYD Seagull from 2:00 PM onwards on September 27, 2024, at Ayala Malls Manila Bay Activity Center. From September 28 to 29, visitors can test drive the Seagull from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
